This module is offered only to Direct Entry International students joining any LUBS degree programme in Level 2. It is similar to the Personal Tutorial modules offered to first year students and is designed to support students in quickly adapting to a UK Higher Education environment.
The module aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to make the most of their academic, career and personal development; to understand the opportunities available to them whilst studying at the University of Leeds and to integrate their university experiences into their longer term personal and career planning.
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Access source material and distinguish between scholarly and non-scholarly practice
- Evaluate and critically assess source material to identify credible sources
- Apply discipline specific knowledge and key concepts to deliver coherent arguments through written work and presentations
- Apply self- knowledge to a range of employment opportunities and identify areas for future personal development planning
On completion of this module students will be able to:

This core module is offered to second year Direct Entry students and supports Leeds for Life and the personal tutorial framework to facilitate students’ transition to studying in UK HE. The modules uses lectures and interactive seminars to develop the skills required to study effectively at Leeds. Students learn how to demonstrate critical thinking skills within a range of assessments and they are introduced to job search techniques and how to produce and effective CV.

Student progress will be monitored via personal tutorial meetings, contribution to group seminars and completion of and performance in assessed coursework.
